The dependable minimum

Start with four columns.

The file header technically needs Metal and Quantity. In practice, Item and Fine Oz Each make a hand-built file clear and reliable.

Minimum CSV
Metal,Item,Quantity,Fine Oz Each
Silver,Custom Silver Bar,4,10

Fine Oz Each means fine troy ounces in one item. The Weight column is only a display label. A fixed-weight catalog item can supply its own fine weight; a custom item cannot.

Optional cost tracking

Choose the cost method that matches your records.

01

Per unit

Use Unit Cost USD. The app multiplies it by Quantity.

Quantity × Unit Cost
02

Total lot

Use Total Cost USD for the full purchase represented by the row.

One total for the row
03

Dollar over spot

Set Cost Method to Dollar Over Spot, then include spot and premium per ounce.

Qty × Oz × (Spot + Premium)
04

Percent over spot

Set Cost Method to Percent Over Spot, then include spot and premium percent.

Qty × Oz × Spot × (1 + % ÷ 100)

No usable cost data? The purchase still imports; its cost basis is simply left untracked.

Formatting rules

Spreadsheet-friendly, with a few simple rules.

  • Dates: YYYY-MM-DD, M/D/YYYY, or M/D/YY. A blank or invalid date becomes the import date.
  • Numbers: Use a period for decimals. Dollar signs and percent signs are accepted.
  • Quoted text: Put fields with commas or line breaks in double quotes. Double any quote inside.
  • Item matching: Exact catalog names match automatically; anything else becomes a custom item.
  • Repeated imports: The app adds every valid row again. It does not deduplicate old imports.
